July 11 tens of thousands of New Yorkers took to the streets of Manhattan to enjoy a rare phenomenon that can be observed only twice a year - Manhattanhenge. It is also sometimes called the "Manhattan Solstice". The essence of the phenomenon is that twice a year the sun rises over the perfect streets that run from east to west. The term "Manhattanhenge" originated from Stonehenge in Britain, where the stones during the solstices and form a "perfect" shade.
