To the south-east ridge of the Serra da Estrela in Portugal, located in the charming hillside village of Monsanto. Building site dates back to 12th century. Since the construction was not possible to use a special technique, some relief in the form of huge boulders remained intact and became the natural walls or roofs of buildings. Limiting conditions for the construction of the village turned into a real architectural and natural museum.
At the national competition in 1938 the village of Monsanto was granted the status of "most Portuguese village." To get here by public transport is practically impossible, but the unique atmosphere of this place, coupled with spectacular scenery is definitely worth it.
