Machu Picchu (Machu Pikchu, in translation - "old peak") - a city of ancient America, located in present-day Peru, at the top of the ridge at an altitude of 2450 meters above sea level, above the Urubamba River valley. In 2007 awarded the New Wonder of the World.
Machu Picchu is also often referred to as the "city in the sky", "city among the clouds," or "Lost City of the Incas." This year marks 100 years since the discovery of Machu Picchu. Living in Peru celebrate this joyous occasion. On the occasion of the anniversary arranged special tours and performances.

March 8, 2001 Peruvian officials reassured tourists, replying to the Japanese assumption that the world-famous Inca city may collapse at any moment. They stated that there is no reason for concern, as the city has stood for 500 years.
